چکیده

This paper presents an empirical comparison of different modulation schemes in still and turbulent water conditions. Using underwater channel emulator, it is shown that pulse position (PPM) subcarrier intensity (SIM) have inherent resilience to turbulence induced fading with SIM achieving higher data rates under all Finally, the signal processing technique termed pair-wise coding (PWC) applied optical wireless communications for first time. The performance PWC compared the, state-of-the-art, bit power loading optimisation algorithm. PWC, a maximum rate 5.2 Gbps achieved

Improved DPPM Modulation for Optical Wireless Communications

In the optical wireless communications systems, modulation schemes such as PPM, DPPM are often used because of its power efficiency. This paper presents a modified DPPM modulation technique for optical wireless communication. We study the properties of IDPPM and compare the power and bandwidth efficiency of OOK, PPM, DPPM and IDPPM. Also we analyse the packet-error probability on ideal distorti...

Underwater Optical Wireless Communications, Networking, and Localization: A Survey

Underwater wireless communications can be carried out through acoustic, radio frequency (RF), and optical waves. Compared to its bandwidth limited acoustic and RF counterparts, underwater optical wireless communications (UOWCs) can support higher data rates at low latency levels. However, severe aquatic channel conditions (e.g., absorption, scattering, turbulence, etc.) pose great challenges fo...

Wireless Optical Communications Through the Turbulent Atmosphere: A Review

In the past decades a renewed interest has been seen around optical wireless communications, commonly known as free-space optics (FSO), because of the ever growing demand for high-data-rate data transmission as to a large extent current applications, such as the high-definition (HD) contents and cloud computing, require great amount of data to be transmitted, hence, demanding more transmission ...

Dual Amplitude-Width Pulse Interval Modulation for Optical Wireless Communications

In this paper, a new modified digital pulse interval modulation called Dual Amplitude-Width Pulse Interval Modulation (DAWPIM) is presented, on the basis of Pulse Amplitude Modulation (PAM) and Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), and its properties are presented. After introducing symbol structure, data rate improvement, average normalized power requirement and bandwidth efficiency are studied. The p...
